Italy and UK will develop a data entry mask on the basis of the code plan of the STEP for NASUR (WP 1). The structure of this mask will be the same for every country and as well as the coding frame is binding for each partner (variable labels and values, missing values, numbers, ordering etc). Even slight changes in question design, response categories and ordering of variables are strictly forbidden in order to avoid incompatibility.
A specific part of the data entry system will be for national analysis (WP 7) only and may differ between the countries. Country specific data will be entered here as well as qualitative data in the form of text memos.
The interviewers (WP 5) will send the questionnaires to the partners, where support staff will enter the data in the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Half an hour per interview is estimated.
The National Data Sets will be sent to Italy, who will be responsible for matching them to the European Data Base (SPSS), cleaning the data, checking for out-of-range-values and for inconsistencies between variables. All changes made during cleaning the data (including transformation of outliers) would be fully documented and directly recorded by the SPSS. After completing the European Data base, it will be returned to the partners with a list of master frequencies and documentation about transformations.
Neither the National Data Sets nor the European Data Base will contain any data that could be in conflict with anonymity rules.
End of Data Collection of the National Analysis Survey.
The National Data Sets and the European Data Base are the end point of the data collection phase and indicate the begin of both for the sociological and social psychological data analysis (WP 7 and WP 8) and the socio-economic evaluation (WP 9).
