Institute of Medical Systems Bioinformatics

Our group leverages computational approaches on big biomedical data to uncover mechanisms of human pathology, with a current emphasis on neurodegeneration and complex cellular processes. We use deep learning-based architectures alongside probabilistic, statistical, and graph-based methods to interpret these datasets, aiming to unravel critical disease mechanisms and therapeutic targets.

We enhance our omics analysis by integrating advanced machine learning techniques to better interpret complex biological data. Our tools, like DISCERN for single-cell gene expression reconstruction and DISSECT for cell deconvolution, improve data accuracy and reveal novel insights into disease mechanisms. We’ve used these algorithms recently to identify key molecular pathways and potential therapeutic targets in ALS.
