Welcome to the
Department of Neurophysiology and Pathophysiology
The Department of Neurophysiology and Pathophysiology is affiliated to the Center of Experimental Medicine of the University Medical Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf. About 15 scientific and 10 non-scientific employees as well as 30 doctoral-, diploma- and master-students collaborate here.
Our core scientific interest is the analysis of cortical and sub-cortical neuronal activities in healthy people and patients suffering from neuronal (i.e., parkinsonism, dystonia) and psychiatric (i.e., schizophrenia) diseases and disorders, respectively. We measure, localize and evaluate the sources of neuronal activities through the application of multichannel EEG and intracranial recording-techniques. In addition we make use of a 275-channel whole-head magnetoencephalograph.
Seven departmental research-groups focus on different aspects of brain activity and are permanently supported through third-party funds from the ‘Deutsche Forschungsgesellschaft’ (DFG), the EU and the ‘Federal Ministry of Education and Research’ (BMBF).
